Dr. Lawrence Grimes

Director Directed Energy Joint Transition Office

As director of the DE JTO, Dr Grimes establishes and maintains the Department of Defense Technology Plan for Directed Energy, detailing the Department’s technology priorities for DE.  In coordination with DoD Services and Agencies he organizes and leads the Department of Defense Technology Area Working Groups for establishing priorities and monitoring research progress in high energy laser S&T throughout the Department of Defense.

Dr. Grimes received a B.S in chemistry from Marietta College in Marietta, OH and Master’s and Doctoral degrees in High Temperature Chemistry from the University of Toledo in Toledo, OH. After completing his Post-doctoral research at Los Alamos National Laboratory, Dr Grimes joined the Air Force Weapons Laboratory, Kirtland AFB, NM.  He devoted 27+ years performing research in HEL and HPM vulnerability effects and assessments important to the Air Force

Dr. Grimes has twice served as the Directed Energy Staff Specialist under Assistant Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering. In this role he assisted the Director for Weapons Systems in the strategic planning, assessment, and defense/advocacy of the Department of Defense (DoD) Directed Energy Weapons Technology Areas.
