COL Edward O'Neill

COL O’Neill is the Director, Capabilities Development and Integration Directorate (CDID), Fort Sill, OK.  He recently commanded the 108th Air Defense Artillery Brigade at Fort Bragg, NC, from 10 July 2013- 

08 July 2015, deploying the Brigade Headquarters to Qatar from May 2014 – February 2015 in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM and INHERENT RESOLVE.  

Colonel O’Neill was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in Air Defense Artillery after graduating from Kent State University in 1989.  He served as platoon leader and Battery Executive Officer in Germany from 1990-93 deploying as Chaparral/Stinger Platoon Leader in support of Operations DESERT SHIELD/STORM.  Colonel O’Neill graduated the Air Defense Artillery Advanced Course in 1994 and was assigned to 1st Infantry Division (Mechanized), Fort Riley, Kansas serving as Assistant Division Air Defense Artillery Officer and Battalion S-4, 2nd Battalion, 3rd ADA.  In 1995, he was reassigned to the 2nd Battalion, 44th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Kentucky serving as Assistant Operations Officer (S3) and commanding Delta Battery, 2-44 ADA from January 1996 to June 1997.  

He subsequently served as Task Force and Brigade ADA Observer Controller from 1997-1999 at the Joint Readiness Training Center Fort Polk, LA; served as OSD Intern to DEPSECDEF from 1999-2000; served as Aide de Camp to the Commanding General, U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command, Arlington, Virginia from 2000-2001.  From 2001-2003, he attended the Command and General Staff Course and School of Advanced Military Studies (SAMS) followed by reassignment in 2003 to the 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.  Assigned to G3 Plans, he deployed to Bagram, Afghanistan in 2004 serving as Chief, Future Plans, CJ35, Combined Joint Task Force-76 in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM-AFG.  In 2005-06, he served as Battalion Executive Officer, 1st Battalion, 62nd Air Defense Artillery and Battalion Operations Officer, Special Troops Battalion (STB), 25th Infantry Division.  He served as Deputy Chief of Plans, 94th AAMDC from 2006-2007.  

Colonel O’Neill commanded the 1st Battalion, 1st Air Defense Artillery (Regiment) at Kadena Air Base, Okinawa, Japan, from June 2007-June 2009.  Following command, he served as Chief, AMD Integration Cell, Fires Center of Excellence, Fort Sill, OK from 2009-2010.  Upon graduating from the U.S. Army War College in 2011, he returned to Fort Sill to serve as TRADOC Capability Manager – Army Air and Missile Defense Command from 2011-13. 

COL and Mrs. Melanie O’Neill have three children, Ryan 21, Kevin 19, and Megan 15.
